Cinéma ABC | La nécropole du porno

Author: Jimmy Pantera

Description

Opened in Brussels in 1972 at the heart of the golden age of pornography, a period sometimes referred to as “the enchanted parenthesis”, the ABC Cinema disappeared in 2013. Anchored in the heart of the capital, it was one of the last pornographic cinemas in the world to show films on 35 mm silver film. Through the history of this cinema, the book paints a portrait of a forbidden underground world, a subject about which very few works have been published in French.

Over the course of its forty-one years of existence, the ABC has become a kind of clandestine museum, filled with reels of celluloid, piles of posters and photos, overflowing with stacked boxes: a maze of spaces haunted by untold stories. In addition to an enlightened historical point of view, numerous testimonies of spectators who frequented or worked there (strippers, projectionists…) have been gathered. The texts are richly illustrated with documents that are often rare or even unpublished: photos of the operation, press releases and promotional posters…
