Cinémas de Bruxelles

Authors: Isabel Biver & Marie-Françoise Plissart

Following the success of her first book devoted to the cinemas of Brussels, Isabel Biver is offering a new version. It has been updated and revisited in tandem with the photographer Marie-Françoise Plissart, who has put together a new set of images taken in various places in the city. She photographed the façades of the old cinemas in their current state, where the original function of the premises has often left little trace. She also made images of the rare interiors of unusual cinemas that are still in operation or abandoned. Old documents from the golden age of cinema, from private collections, remind us, in counterpoint, how many cinemas the capital once had dedicated to the 7th Art. The author also looks at what cinemas have become today, the new approaches and proposals for watching a film in a cinema: a practice in permanent change.
