What was the impact of the development of the railroad on the urban morphology of Brussels?<\/p>\n

What traces does the city still bear today? Contrary to popular belief, the tremendous growth of the railway network in the 19th century and the construction of ring lines sometimes constituted an obstacle to urbanization. While the stations encouraged urban development, the railroads crossing the city may have played the opposite role, hindering the development of entire neighborhoods.<\/p>\n
