Toriju cyanotype photograph

This is a 39 x30cm spoiled cyanotype on handmade cotton paper from the Stalaktos series.

Description

Each print is unique and has been carefully handmade in the darkroom. The cyanotype process was developed in 1842 by the English natural scientist and astronomer Sir John Frederick Herschel (1792-1871). Cyanotyping was thus the third photographic technique after daguerrotyping and talbotyping (calotyping), by which stable photographic images could be obtained. Unlike the earlier silver-based techniques, cyanotype is based on the light sensitivity of iron(III) complexes.
