Description

A series of four diptychs, each composed of a manuscript and a portrait of the author, who is, in each case, none other than Alain Rivière himself. Under the guise of these imaginary authors, Alain Rivière assumes the authorship of four texts: four sheets of paper saturated with poetic, metaphysical, political and philosophical intentions, which we will quickly qualify as works of low altitude. Four essays passionately tending towards unreachable peaks. Impossible take-offs, in short. These works cannot fly, one is sure of that at first glance. Yet, if you look closely, surprising, strangely aerial figures sometimes emerge in the slides of these unfortunate authors on the dancefloor of thought. Hubris belongs to the larger group known as Vues de l’esprit.
